1. About us
1.1 Adams Electrical Services is the trading name of Adams Electrical Services (Oxford) Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”), a NAPIT accredited electrical contractor (NAPIT membership number 72244) registered in England and Wales with company number 15634350. Our registered office is 25A Market Square, Bicester, OX26 6AD, and our VAT number is 519940662.
1.2 Our trading address is 89 Willow Drive, Bicester, OX26 3XF. You can contact us on 01869 929878 or at info@adamselectrical.uk.
1.3 In these terms, “you” means the person or organisation who asks us to carry out the work. Where these terms say something applies to a “consumer”, it means an individual acting for purposes outside their trade or business. A “business client” means anyone else, including landlords acting in the course of business, commercial clients and main contractors.
2. Quotations
2.1 Quotations are free of charge and are based on the information available, and the conditions visible, at the time we price the work.
2.2 Unless stated otherwise, a quotation is valid for 30 days from the date it is issued. After that, we may need to review the price, for example to reflect changes in material costs.
2.3 Each quotation sets out the work included. Anything not listed is excluded unless we agree otherwise in writing.
2.4 Guide prices, including those produced by our online EV charger quote tool, are provisional estimates for budgeting only and are not formal quotations. A final price will be confirmed following a survey or review of the job.
3. Accepting a quotation
3.1 A contract is formed when you accept our quotation in writing, including by email or message, or when we start work at your request.
3.2 For larger jobs, we may ask for a deposit before work is booked or materials are ordered. Any deposit, and what it covers, will be shown on the quotation.
4. Changes to the work
4.1 If you ask for changes or additional work after accepting our quotation, we will confirm any change to the price or timescale before carrying it out.
4.2 If, once work has started, we find something that could not reasonably have been identified when we quoted, such as concealed damage, defects in the existing installation or materials requiring specialist handling, we will explain the issue and agree any additional cost with you before proceeding.
5. Your responsibilities
5.1 You agree to provide safe and clear access to the areas we need to work in, along with access to electricity, water and welfare facilities where reasonably required.
5.2 You must tell us about anything that may affect the work or our safety, including known faults, previous alterations, restricted working times and the presence or suspected presence of asbestos.
5.3 If we suspect asbestos, we will stop the affected work until it has been tested and, where necessary, dealt with by a licensed specialist. Any resulting delay or cost will be discussed with you.
5.4 Unless agreed otherwise, you are responsible for moving furniture, belongings and floor coverings from the work areas, and for any permissions needed from landlords, freeholders or management companies.
6. Our work
6.1 All work is carried out by qualified electricians in accordance with BS 7671 (the IET Wiring Regulations) and current Building Regulations, with reasonable care and skill.
6.2 On completion and payment, we will issue the appropriate certification. Where work is notifiable, we will register it with Building Control through our NAPIT membership.
6.3 If, during our work, we find a defect in the existing installation that presents an immediate danger, we may need to make it safe, which can include isolating the affected circuit. We will explain what we have found and recommend the necessary remedial work.
6.4 Basic filling of chases and holes we create is only included where agreed and stated on the quotation. Our price does not include plastering, decorating, tiling or flooring repairs unless specifically agreed.
6.5 We aim to meet agreed start and completion dates, but these are estimates. We are not responsible for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as severe weather, supplier shortages, illness, or the progress of other trades.
7. Materials and customer-supplied items
7.1 Materials and equipment supplied by us remain our property until our invoice has been paid in full.
7.2 Where you supply light fittings, appliances or other items for us to install, we will install them correctly, but we cannot accept responsibility for their quality, suitability, compliance or any defect in the item itself.
7.3 Manufacturers’ warranties on products, such as EV chargers, consumer units and heaters, are provided by the manufacturer and are passed on to you where applicable.
8. Payment
8.1 Invoices are payable within the terms stated on the invoice or quotation.
8.2 For larger jobs, we may invoice in stages as the work progresses. Any staged payments will be set out on the quotation.
8.3 If payment is not made on time, we may charge interest on the overdue amount. For consumers, interest is charged at 4% a year above the Bank of England base rate. For business clients, we may claim interest and fixed compensation under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
8.4 We may also recover reasonable costs incurred in recovering unpaid sums, and may suspend work or withhold certification until overdue amounts are paid.
9. Your right to cancel (consumers)
9.1 If you are a consumer and the contract was agreed away from our premises or at a distance (for example by phone, email or message), you have the right to cancel within 14 days of the day the contract was formed, without giving a reason.
9.2 To cancel, contact us by phone, email or in writing with a clear statement that you wish to cancel. A model cancellation form is available on request.
9.3 If you ask us to start work within the 14-day cancellation period and then cancel, you will need to pay for the work carried out up to that point and for any materials ordered specifically for your job. If the work is fully completed within the cancellation period at your request, the right to cancel no longer applies.
10. Our guarantee
10.1 We guarantee our workmanship for 12 months from the date of completion. If a fault arises in that period as a result of our workmanship, we will put it right free of charge.
10.2 The guarantee does not cover faults caused by misuse, accidental damage, normal wear and tear, alterations or repairs by others, or defects in customer-supplied items or the existing installation.
10.3 Please contact us promptly if you notice a problem, so we can inspect it and arrange any remedial work.
11. Liability
11.1 Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.
11.2 If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. We are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable when the contract was formed.
11.3 If you are a business client, we will not be liable for any loss of profit, loss of business or indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability in connection with the work is limited to the price paid for that work.
11.4 We hold public liability insurance appropriate to our work.
12. Business clients and main contractors
12.1 Where we work for a business client or main contractor, these terms apply unless different terms, such as a subcontract, have been agreed in writing and signed by both parties, in which case those terms will take precedence where they conflict.
13. Your information
13.1 We use your personal information only to provide our services, issue certification, meet our legal and regulatory obligations and communicate with you about your job. Further details are set out in our privacy policy.
14. Complaints and disputes
14.1 If you are unhappy with any aspect of our service, please follow our complaints policy so that we can try to put things right.
14.2 As a NAPIT registered contractor, our work is covered by NAPIT’s complaints process if a dispute cannot be resolved directly with us.
14.3 These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute.
